The tales in Francois Bereaud's San Diego Stories are fast, dark, and gritty, sure, but also touching and wildly entertaining. Short fiction should punch, and there's plenty of punching here. Great openings and tight dialogue, too. This is a hell of a debut, and Bereaud is one to watch.
